As the train fare increased on the main 15 routes from Dhaka

--

Bangladesh Railway has been providing concessional facilities to train passengers for 32 years. As a result, passengers could travel in this comfortable vehicle at a slightly lower fare. But only 10 more days can be traveled by train in that facility. After that the discount facility is cancelled.

For the next 4th of May, seats for traveling by train at a distance of more than 100 km will have to be purchased without concessional facilities. The sale of seats for that day will start from Wednesday (April 24). Because Bangladesh Railway sells advance seats 10 days before train travel.

In a public notice on Monday (April 22), Bangladesh Railways said that in 1992, distance-based and section-based concessions were given to Bangladesh Railways. In 2012, ‘Sectional Rebate’ was abolished but distance based Rebate remains in force.

Recently, Bangladesh Railways has decided to withdraw only the existing distance based concession without increasing fares on passenger trains. In view of that, the decision to withdraw the existing distance-based concession in all types of passenger trains will be implemented from May 4.

For 32 years, Bangladesh Railways has been giving 20 percent discount on the basic fare for 101 to 250 km, 25 percent for 251 to 400 km and 30 percent for distance of 401 km or more.

To reduce financial pressure and losses, the government passenger service company is now withdrawing this facility. Apart from this, additional coaches added to trains and reserved seat fares are also being increased through application. In this case, additional added coaches and non-AC coach seats reserved through application will incur an increase of 20 percent of the base fare and AC coach seats will increase by 30 percent on the basis of reservation charges.

According to Bangladesh Railway sources, after the new decision, the ticket sales subsidiary of Bangladesh Railway Sahaj-Synesis-Vincen JV has already decided the new fare excluding the station-to-station discount facility across the country.
