Two children died after drowning in Vishwanath pond in Sylhet. The incident took place at the upazila Sadar on Sunday (April 21) around 5 pm.
One of the two children killed is Rihan Attar Yachin (11) son of Siraj Mia of West Chandshirkapan village of Viswanath municipality and Yusuf Ruhan (11) son of Titan Mia of Naihati village of Barhatta police station of Netrakana district, a tenant of Moinul Mia, a local of Viswanath Puran Bazar. Both were 3rd class students of Vishwanath Alia Madrasa and both were the only children of their parents. They are cousins and cousins.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Jayant Sarkar of Biswanath police station confirmed the matter.
According to police sources, the bodies of two children were suddenly found in the government pond behind Biswanath Upazila Complex in the afternoon. Then the residents of the neighboring government quarters immediately informed the police. Around 5 pm, a group of policemen led by Officer-in-Charge Rama Prasad Chakraborty of Biswanath Police Station recovered the bodies of two children from the pond.
SI Jayant Sarkar of Biswanath police station said that the bodies of the two dead children have been handed over to their families. Necessary measures are being taken in this regard.
