The High Court has ruled that former executive editor of The Daily Star Syed Ashfaqul Haque and his wife Tania Khandkar should not be granted bail in the case of the death of a teenage domestic worker who fell from a residential building in the capital’s Mohammadpur.

The High Court bench of Justice Rezaul Hasan and Justice Fahmida Quader gave the ruling after hearing the bail application of Syed Ashfaqul Haque and Tania Khandkar.

It has been asked to respond to the respective rules within eight weeks.

The High Court granted interim bail to Tanya Khandkar in this case.

During the hearing, senior advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the petitioners and Attorney General AM Amin Uddin appeared for the opposition.

Syed Ashfaqul Haque and Tania Khandkar were arrested in a case filed after the death of domestic worker Preeti Urang after she fell from a flat in Mohammadpur area of ​​the capital last February.

Earlier, the bail application of this couple was rejected three times by the concerned lower court.

Preeti Urang (15) of Moulvibazar died after falling from the ninth floor flat of Syed Ashfaqul Haque at around 8 am on February 6.

Syed Ashfaqul Haque and Tanya Khandkar were taken into custody by the police within a few hours of this incident.
