On the special invitation of President Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani arrived in Dhaka on a two-day official visit. When Hazrat Shahjalal arrived at the International Airport on Monday (April 22) afternoon, President Sahabuddin welcomed him with a bouquet of flowers.

A special Qatar Airways flight carrying the Amir and his entourage landed at the airport around 5pm. 21 gunshots were fired during the descent of the Amir.

The Amir was then taken to a makeshift greeting stage. He was given a guard of honor as part of the state honours. At this time, the national anthems of the two countries were played. Later the Emir of Qatar visited the parade.

The President introduced Sahabuddin Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad to the waiting people in the presentation line. The Amir also introduced the President to his delegation.

After the ceremony at the airport, the Emir of Qatar boarded the capital’s La Meridien Hotel with his entourage.

On Tuesday (April 23) morning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will have a courtesy meeting with the Emir of Qatar. Hasan Mahmud. After that, Amir will meet with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Shimul Hall of Prime Minister’s Office at 10:30 AM.

Six agreements and five memorandums of understanding (MOU) are expected to be signed between the two countries during Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s visit.

The agreements are—avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion, cooperation in legal matters, maritime transport, promotion and protection of mutual investments, transfer of convicts and establishment of a joint trade council.

Apart from this, five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are likely to be signed, including cooperation in manpower, higher education and scientific research and diplomatic training.

On Tuesday afternoon, the President will host a luncheon in honor of the Emir of Qatar at the Durbar Hall of Sahabuddin Bangabhavan. In the evening, the emir is scheduled to leave for Qatar in a special plane.

The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh will see him off at the airport.
