Zainal Abedin, a former member of Barchatul Union of Kanighat Upazila of Sylhet, has been murdered.
A person was killed in a dispute over land in Kanighat upazila of Sylhet; At this time, four others were injured. The police arrested three people on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
Kanighat Police Station OC Jahangir Hossain Sardar said that the incident took place in front of Majhbarai Jame Masjid of Haratoil Majhbarai village of Barchatul Union of Upazila on Monday at 2 pm.
The deceased Zainal Abedin (47) is the son of deceased Achhad Ali of this area and a former member of Barchatul Union.
Among the four injured in the collision, the deceased’s elder brother, Oman expatriate. Abdullah (57) and another brother Dubai expatriate Chaikhfullah (60) are admitted in Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The deceased’s elder brother Samachul Haque, nephew Suhail Ahmad and Kamal Ahmad have been arrested in this incident.
According to the family members, Samshul Haque and his sons occupied some areas on the northern side of Haratail Majhbarai Jame Masjid. There is already a dispute about this.
Around 12 noon Zainal Abedin in the presence of the villagers decided the boundaries of the mosque site and asked to build the imam’s house. This makes the opponent unhappy. They threatened to ‘see’ him.
Zainal Abedin came out of his house at 2:00 p.m. and went to the street east of the mosque when some of the opponents attacked him with weapons and hacked Zainal Abedin and left him on the street.
When his brothers Shifullah and Abdullah came forward, the attackers also chopped them and threw them in the water of the field beside the road. Meanwhile, their cousins Abdur Rashid and Abdul Quddus were also injured.
Relatives rescued Zainal Abedin, Chaifullah and Abdullah in critical condition and went to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. There the doctor declared Zainal Abedin dead.
OC Jahangir Hossain Sardar said that the family is preparing for the case. The body has been sent to Osmani Hospital for post-mortem. Police are continuing to nab others involved in the murder.
On receiving the information about the incident, police station police along with Kanaighat Circle ASP Alok Kanti Sharma visited the spot.
