The court sentenced a young man named Bachir Uddin Jamaddar to life imprisonment for the crime of raping a girl in Barisal. At the same time he was fined 50 thousand rupees.

Judge Yarb Hossain of the Barisal Women and Child Torture Crime Prevention Tribunal gave the verdict on Monday.

This information was confirmed by the court’s bench assistant Qazi Md. Humayun Kabir.

Convicted Bachir Uddin Jamaddar is the son of late A: Malek Jamaddar of Bara Pramahar village of Nalchiti Upazila of Jhalkathi. The accused was present in the courtroom when the verdict was announced.

Bench assistant Kazi Humayun Kabir said that the plaintiff in the case has no father. So Bachir Uddin, a distant relative, took advantage of the helplessness. Bachir was brought to Barisal city on November 5, 2012 to take him to the doctor. Later Barisal took Sher E Bangla Medical College (Shebachim) Hospital to Residential Hotel South Bengal on Band Road. He took the girl to room number 15 of the hotel and raped her. The next day, on November 6, the girl managed to escape and reported the matter to the police. Police arrested Bachir and rescued the girl and admitted her to OCC.

He also said that on that day, the victim Kishori filed a case of rape at Kotyali Model Police Station with Bachir as the sole accused. Sub-Inspector (SI) Salim Khan filed a charge sheet accusing Bashir on 8 January 2013. The judge gave this verdict on the testimony of seven people.
