Emir of Qatar in Dhaka on a two-day visit

Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in Dhaka this afternoon on a two-day visit.

A special flight carrying Amir landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5.20 pm. President Md. Sahabuddin welcomed him.

After almost 19 years, such a high-level visit is coming from the friendly country of Qatar.

According to the national news agency BASS, this is the first high-level state visit by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from any Middle Eastern country since the formation of the government in January 2024. The Emir of Qatar will be staying at the La Meridien hotel with his entourage.

Tomorrow, April 23, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud will pay a courtesy call on the Emir of Qatar.

Then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will first have a private meeting with the Emir of Qatar and later a formal bilateral meeting at the Ganabhaban.

According to the state. Sahabuddin will host a courtesy lunch at the Emir of Qatar at Bangabhaban.

Six agreements and five memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed between the two countries during his visit.

These are agreements related to avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion, cooperation in legal matters, maritime transport, development and protection of mutual investment of both countries, transfer of deserving persons of the two countries and formation of joint business council.

Apart from this, five MoUs are scheduled to be signed, including an agreement on labor force, an agreement on higher education and scientific research and an agreement on cooperation in diplomatic training. He will leave Dhaka on a special flight that evening.

A road and a park in Dhaka will be named after Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
