The court sentenced a young man named Bashiruddin Jamaddar to life imprisonment for raping a girl in a residential hotel in Barisal on the pretext of treatment. He was also fined 50 thousand rupees.

On Monday (April 22), Barisal Women and Child Abuse Crime Prevention Tribunal Judge Md. Yarab Hossain sentenced him to prison. The convicted accused was present in the courtroom when the verdict was announced.

Convicted Bachir Uddin Jamaddar died in Bara Pramahar village of Nalchiti Upazila of Jhalkathi district. Son of Malek Jamaddar.

Court Bench Assistant Kazi Md. Humayun Kabir confirmed this information and said that the plaintiff girl has no father. Taking advantage of the poverty and helplessness, Bachir Uddin, a distant relative, took him to Barisal’s residential hotel in South Bengal on November 5, 2012 for treatment. He raped the girl in room number 15 of the hotel. The next morning on November 6, the victim managed to escape and reported the incident to the police. Later the police arrested Bachir. Hospitalized the victim.

On the same day, the victim filed a case of rape in Kotwali Model Police Station with Bachir Uddin as the sole accused. The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) Salim Khan, filed a chargesheet accusing Bashiruddin on January 8, 2013.

The court took the testimony of seven people. Based on that, the court judge announced the verdict on Monday.
