One of the private universities of the country, Bangladesh University (BU) has been appointed as the vice-chancellor. Md. Jahangir Alam. President and Acharya Md. Sahabuddin appointed him to this position for the next four years. The Ministry of Education issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday (16 April 2024).
According to the notification, according to section 31 (1) of the Private University Act-2010, with the approval of His Excellency the President and the Chancellor of the University, Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam was appointed as Vice-Chancellor.

Appointed as its vice-chancellor, distinguished educationist and internationally renowned former professor Dr. Md. Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BU Kazi Jamil Azhar congratulated Jahangir Alam.
Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam started his career in the Directorate of Fisheries in 1983, joined the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute in 1985 and served there as Chief Scientific Officer for nearly 27 years. He joined Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University as a professor in 2011 and held additional duties of Dean, Head and Director there. He won the National Award in 2009 for outstanding research achievements. He has published 103 journal articles so far.
