A road and park in the capital are being named after the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The park to be built on Balur field in Mirpur’s Kalsi and the road from Mirpur ECB premises to Kalsi flyover will be named after the Emir of Qatar.
The Emir of Qatar will personally inaugurate these two facilities on Tuesday, said Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud in a press conference at the ministry on Sunday.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is coming to Bangladesh on a two-day state visit next Monday.
Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said, “Since the independence of Bangladesh, excellent friendly relations have existed between the two countries. The park and road are being named after the Amir to commemorate the bond of friendship between the two countries and his visit.”
On February 19, 2023, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a public meeting announced the construction of an amusement park and playground in the sand fields of Kalshi area. He allotted 16 bighas of land for playground and park as a gift to the people of that area. The ground will have cricket and football facilities and training facilities. There will also be walking facilities for the elderly and children’s play areas. Dhaka North City Corporation is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the park.
The foreign minister said that energy cooperation, investment, manpower export and immigration will be discussed during the visit of the Emir of Qatar.
A 15-year deal signed in 2017 to import LNG from Qatar will remain in effect until 2032. However, after 2025 there are rules for new contracts to get more LNG.
Hasan Mahmud expressed hope that there will be progress in this regard during Amir’s visit.
