Bangladesh Technical Education Board Chairman Ali Akbar Khan has been removed from office after his wife was arrested for alleged involvement in the charter trade ring.
On Monday, he was removed from the post of chairman and attached to the Directorate of Technical Education.
In another order, technical board director Mamun ul Haque has been given the additional charge of chairman by the technical and madrasa education department.
Ali Akbar Khan, who took charge of Rangpur Polytechnic Institute, took over as the Chairman of Technical Education Board on 18 October 2021.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Akbar Khan’s wife Sehela Parveen from Rajuk Apartment in Uttara Sector 18 last Saturday. Later the court remanded him for two days.
Detectives say they have found ‘evidence’ of Sehela Parveen’s money dealings with a ring involved in producing fake certificates, registration cards and admit cards of technical education boards. The gang has earned lakhs of rupees by making more than five thousand fake certificates and mark sheets in the last few years.
The detective police has also summoned Ali Akbar Khan for questioning to get information about the creation of fake certificates and mark sheets of the board.
Apart from Sehela, five other people were arrested earlier on this charge. They are – ATM Shamsuzzaman, system analyst of the board, Faisal Hossain, a dismissed employee of the same organization, Sanjida Akhtar Koli, director of ‘Garai Survey Institute’, Golam Mostafa alias Mostafizur Rahman, principal of Hillful Fuzul Technical and BM College, Kamrangirchar and Dhaka Technical School and College (Dhaka Technical School and College, Jatrabari). Medical) Director Maksudur Rahman alias Mamunke (40).
Among these five people, the police arrested System Analyst Shamsuzzaman and Faisal Hossain on April 1. According to the information provided by them, Koli was arrested from Kushtia Sadar area on April 5. Later, these three gave a confessional statement in court. And in Koli’s statement, the information of Sehla’s involvement with the fake certificate fraud ring emerged.
According to the detective police, Shamsuzzaman and Sanjida Akhter Koli have a ‘close’ relationship with Sehela Parveen, the chairman’s wife.
According to the police, 25 to 30 more people involved in this gang have been identified.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Detective) Haroon Or Rashid said in a press conference on Monday, “Ali Akbar Khan was called to the DB office on Tuesday. Efforts will be made to find out about these incidents from him.”
In response to a question, Haroon said, “Everyone whose name has come up in this incident will be interrogated if necessary. If specific allegations are found against anyone, he will be arrested.”
