Dhaka: At the beginning of Baisakh, the number of patients in Dhaka Children’s Hospital in the capital is increasing every day due to intense heat. Due to increased patient pressure, there is a bed shortage in the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Office has again issued a ‘heat alert’ for the next three days.

Meteorologist Md. Bajlur Rashid said in a warning that the ongoing heatwave over the country may continue for the next 72 hours from today (April 22). Besides, the discomfort may increase due to the excess of water vapor.

Earlier on April 19, the Meteorological Office issued a heat alert for three days. At that time, the temperature was also feared to rise further.

The elderly, the sick and children are the worst affected by the intense heat wave. In the intense heat, the pressure of patients is increasing every day in the capital’s children’s hospital. Children are suffering from various diseases including diarrhoea, pneumonia, shortness of breath, cold cough, fever, asthma. There is a shortage of beds in the capital’s children’s hospital due to increased patient pressure.

On Monday (April 22), Agargaon Children’s Hospital in the capital was visited and according to hospital sources, 32 pneumonia patients were treated outdoors in the last 24 hours. 19 new patients were admitted in the last 24 hours. There are still 87 people admitted. In the current year, the total number of admitted patients is 1 thousand 898.

189 people were treated outdoors for common fever in 24 hours. 23 people received treatment for asthma, 66 people for scabies and skin diseases and 109 people received treatment.

In addition, 53 people have been treated outdoors in the last 24 hours for diarrhea, one new patient has been admitted to the hospital, five people are currently admitted. A total of 380 people have been admitted to the hospital for diarrhea in the current year.

Besides, a total of 1,093 patients including 248 patients in emergency department, 681 patients in medicine department and 164 patients in surgery department have received treatment at Dhaka Children’s Hospital.

Doctors advise to consume plenty of pure water and liquid food to stay healthy in summer. Besides, doctors also advise to avoid eating open food syrup and not to go out of the house unless necessary and to consume plenty of pure water and liquid food.

A doctor at the children’s hospital said that most of the seats in the hospital have been filled. Some very emergency patients have to be admitted. We are doing some provision for those who are poor. On the other hand, I am referring those who are in good financial condition to another hospital.

Director Professor Dr. Dhaka Children’s Hospital regarding the care of children in such intense heat. Jahangir Alam told Banglanews that children should be prevented from going outside in the sun. Should be kept in a cool shaded place, thin white cotton cloth or bare skin. Plenty of water and fruit juices can be given.

He said that the door and window of the house should be kept open in this summer. Parents should not keep food in the open for a long time, if there is a fridge, food should be stored in the fridge. Take it out of the fridge and reheat it. Children should wipe the body sweat. Bathing can be done several times a day if necessary. Children should be prevented from eating cold refrigerator water or ice cream at this time.

Children should wear loose white cotton clothes when they go out. Keeps umbrella and water as well. He also advised not to eat any food, drink or water in open street.
