However, BCB took Mohsin Sheikh as an interim in the last New Zealand series. This time Mohsin Sheikh has been appointed as the performance analyst of the national team for two years. The Pakistani-born analyst has previously worked with the Afghanistan national team, the Pakistan Cricket Board and Cricket Australia.
BCB confirmed Mohsin’s appointment on Monday (April 22). He will work as an analyst for the Tigers for the next 2 years starting from next May. That means he will join the team before the upcoming T20 series against Zimbabwe.
Apart from the national team, Mohsin Sheikh has worked as a performance analyst in T20 tournaments like BPL, PSL, IPL and BBL.
Srinivas Chandrasekaran left his job as an analyst of the Bangladesh team after the India World Cup. The board was looking for someone with experience to replace him. Mohsin was taken for a series at that time. This time he was given the final appointment.
There are also criticisms of the newly appointed analyst. Afghanistan were very close to the target of 292 runs in 37.1 overs against Sri Lanka in the group stage of the Asia Cup. But there was an opportunity to secure the Super Four by taking the score to 295 runs in the next 3 balls. But the analyst could not give any such information to Rashid Khan and Fazal Haque Farooqui at the crease. So Rashidra gave up hope as the target was not achieved in 37.1 overs and lost the match as well.
Later found out that the target could have been achieved by playing 3 more balls. But by then there was nothing else to do. Even the television programs at the time explained the calculation. But the analyst did not notice it. As a result, Afghanistan left the tournament. He was heavily criticized after that.
