The 4-day United Nations Climate Adaptation Conference National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Expo has started in Dhaka. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the opening of the expo at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Monday (April 22).

It is known that this National Admission Plan (NAP) expo has been organized for the first time in Bangladesh. Which will continue till April 25. After the opening of the expo, a high-level transformational dialogue began at the Celebrity Room of the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury is present as moderator. UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Steele is present as the keynote speaker at the session. UN Resident Coordinator, Gwynne Lewis spoke as a contributor to the session.

According to the organizers, 383 people from 104 countries have registered with UNFCCC to participate in NAP Expo 2024. Besides, 550 people including representatives of various ministries, departments and organizations of the country, climate experts, representatives of NGOs, student volunteers participated. By participating in this conference, everyone will be able to mutually benefit from various issues related to the adaptation activities of different countries to face the impact of climate change. NAP Expo will be an international forum to interact and exchange experiences in NAP formulation and implementation.

Besides, Bangladesh will organize various sessions at Nap Expo. Among them, the session ‘Mobilizing Domestic Climate Finance: Experience of Bangladesh’ will discuss own climate fund or trust fund. A self-financed ‘Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund’ was established in 2009 to transition from climate-vulnerable to climate-resilient, a rare initiative in the world. Various projects have been taken up till date at a cost of 490 million dollars in this fund from our own resources.

Another session titled ‘Advancement of National Climate Plans of Bangladesh’ will have an overall discussion on the National Adaptation Plan of Bangladesh. On the other hand, it can be seen that the adaptive activities of different countries are being displayed in total 23 stalls in this conference. Besides 34 sessions in 4 days
Experts will discuss on transformational adaptation, financial mechanisms, adaptation activity monitoring and evaluation tools, gender responsive adaptation etc.

It has also been informed that the 13 stalls allocated for Bangladesh will display climate adaptation issues.
