Demand not to finalize building construction rules without REHAB’s opinion : News Online

The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) has demanded the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and RAJUK not to finalize the Dhaka Metropolitan Building Construction Regulations without the opinion of REHAB.

In a press release sent from Rehab on Sunday, it is said that Rehab is a major stakeholder in the housing industry. However, the draft of Dhaka Metropolitan Building Construction Rules-2024 has been prepared without any opinion of Rehab.

According to Rehab, the building was constructed according to Dhaka Metropolitan Building Construction Regulations. Common citizens, land owners and building owners are likely to be affected by the way the new law is being framed. At the same time, the housing industry will be affected. Because according to the new rules, the height and area of ​​the building will be reduced, at the same time the number of flats will be reduced. Different countries of the world are moving towards building vertically, but we are walking in the opposite direction. Our land crisis will increase in future. The pressure on agricultural land will increase. Secure housing for numerous citizens will be disrupted. Along with the increase in flat prices, house rent will also increase. Unable to cope with the pressure of house rent, many citizens will be forced to leave Dhaka. At the same time sublet will increase. As a result, numerous complications will be created in the urban life system and the housing sector will fall into crisis.

The statement said that in the past, Rehab has been involved in the preparation of various regulations. But this time the written opinion and recommendation of Rehab was not accepted in the drafting of these rules. Basically, this Dhaka Metropolitan Building Construction Rules-2024 has been drafted unilaterally, which is not intended.

The statement also said that Rehab members are working to solve the housing problem of Dhaka city by constructing different buildings. They complete projects by solving practical theoretical and practical complexities in project implementation. Rehab members deal with project problems and difficulties in implementation phase experience and implementation of action plan. Therefore, it is very important to take the recommendations and opinions of Rehab in preparing the draft of the rules.
