Doctors announced the closure of private practice in Chittagong on Tuesday

The Chittagong branch of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) has decided to shut down the private practice on Tuesday (April 23) to protest the attack on two doctors in Chittagong and demand the arrest of the accused.

According to the decision, from 6 am on that day to 6 am on the next day, private chambers, admission of new patients in the hospital, new patient services in the diagnostic center will be closed. However, in private hospitals or clinics, the treatment of patients admitted on the previous day will continue. Similarly, the diagnostic center can deliver previous patient reports, but no new patients will be admitted or served.

Confirming the matter, General Secretary of BMA Chittagong Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury said, ‘We have appealed against the cancellation of the bail of the arrested accused in connection with the attack on doctor Shiblu at the medical center. We want the court to do justice to us. The rest of the accused should be arrested quickly. If we fail to bring those involved in the incident under the law, we will announce a stricter program after next Tuesday.’

Earlier on Saturday (April 20) all government and private hospitals, upazila health complex and clinic-diagnostic centers of Chittagong observed a two-hour strike from 10 am to 12 pm.

It is known that on April 11, the doctor on duty complained of delay in treating a patient injured in an accident at Patia General Hospital. Raktim Das was severely beaten. Dr. Raktim Das is currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) Hospital.

As soon as this incident did not end, on April 14, Chittagong Medical Center Hospital, the doctor on duty Dr. Dr. Riaz Uddin Shiblu was attacked. Dr. Riyaz is currently undergoing treatment in Chamek Hospital’s ICU. Although his condition is stable, he is still not out of danger. In addition, some hospital officials were seriously injured in this incident.

Due to these two incidents, the doctors of Chittagong gathered in front of Chamek Hospital on April 18 and formed a human chain. Leaders of Swadhinta Prachik Parishad (SWACHIP) and Paediatrics Doctors Association, Intern Doctors Association and Private Hospital Associations joined the human band organized by Chittagong Medical Association (BMA).
