MV Abdullah will arrive in Dubai on Sunday

After being freed from Somali pirates, the sailors of MV Abdullah anchored in Dubai port will be busy unloading and loading cargo there for the next eight days.

The Bangladeshi ship arrived at Al Hamria port in Dubai on Sunday afternoon.

The ship’s master, Captain Mohammad Abdur Rasheed, told bdnews24.com that they will unload coal brought from Mozambique there for the next five days.

In the next three days, another cargo will be loaded from Mina Saqr or Port Saqr in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah near the Strait of Hormuz to Chittagong. Besides, they will have busy time in ancillary activities of the port.

He said that all 23 officers and sailors of the ship are healthy. They are eager to return home.

Earlier, the owner of the ship, Kabir Steel Re-Rolling Mills (KSRM), said that 21 sailors will return home on the ship after unloading the coal, while the remaining two will come in the aircraft.

Captain Rashid said MV Abdullah crossed the Oman Sea and entered the Persian Gulf on Saturday night. The ship moved at a speed of 9.3 kilometers per hour and reached outer anchorage on Sunday.

Ship tracking website marinetraffic.com said the ship was waiting to enter the port.

On March 12, MV Abdullah was captured by pirates 600 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia on its way to Dubai with coal from Mozambique. The owner said that the ship and its 23 sailors were taken hostage at gunpoint.

After 33 days, the pirates left the ship on April 13 at around 3 am. Then the ship left for Al Hamria port in Dubai.

A photo posted on Facebook by MV Abdullah’s Chief Officer Atiqullah Khan at noon on April 14 shows Operation Atlanta commandos standing next to the freed sailors.

Then on the afternoon of 15 April, the EUNAVFOR Operation Atlanta mission tweeted a picture of the MV Abdullah being guarded and moving forward.
