Bangladesh Technical Education Board Chairman Ali Akbar Khan has been summoned by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police after his wife was arrested for his alleged involvement in a certificate trade fraud ring.

DMP Additional Commissioner of Police Harun Or Rashid said that the chairman was called on Tuesday to inquire about the creation of fake certificates and number sheets of the board.

“We have asked the chairman to come on Tuesday. We will ask him about the creation of fake certificates and number plates,” he told bdnews24.com at midnight on Sunday.

DMP DB chief Harun said that he will be asked about the information about how the employees of his office were involved in such crimes and why action was not taken despite the information being published in various media.

In response to a question, he said that he cannot avoid the responsibility of the fraud that happened.

In the meantime, the chairman’s wife Sehela Parveen was arrested on Saturday and remanded for two days by the detective police.

The detective police highlighted the issues of arrest and certificate fraud at the press conference on Sunday.

Amidst the incident of wife arrest, press conference and remand, the news of technical education board chairman Ali Akbar Khan being OSD was circulated in various media.

Ali Akbar told bdnews24.com on Sunday midnight about the summoning of the DB and the OSD that no one from the detective police said anything or called him till midnight.

“But if called, I will go.”

Regarding spreading the news about OSD, he said, he has not received the order so far.

“But when the news is being broadcast on so many TV stations, it might be right. I may get the order tomorrow.”

Six people have been arrested in several cases in this case of certificate fraud, three of whom have given a confessional statement in court.

Intelligence officer Harun said that the chairman will also be asked to know how to identify the fake certificates that have already been published on the board’s website.

“Someone is working with these fake certificates, some have gone out of the country, it is the responsibility of the board authorities to identify and cancel them.”

Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Akbar Khan’s wife Sehela Parveen from Rajuk Apartment in Uttara Sector 18 on Saturday.

Later, in a press conference at DMP’s media center on Sunday, Additional Commissioner Haroon Or Rashid said that ‘evidence’ of Sehela Parveen’s money transactions with a gang involved in making fake certificates, registration cards and admit cards of Technical Education Board was found.

“This gang has made lakhs of rupees by making more than five thousand fake certificate marksheets in the last few years.”

Apart from Sehla, five other people were earlier arrested on this charge; Three of them have given a confessional statement in court, police said.

ATM Shamsuzzaman, System Analyst of Technical Education Board, and Faisal Hossain, a dismissed employee of the same organization, were arrested on April 1 on charges of trading more than 5,000 certificates and mark sheets.

Based on the information provided by them, Sanjida Akhter Koli, director of ‘Garai Survey Institute’ was arrested from Kushtia Sadar area on April 5. Later, all three gave a confessional statement in court.

In the statement given by Koli, the name of the wife of technical board chairman Ali Akbar Khan came up, said intelligence officer Harun.

The police then examined the devices used by Shamsuzzaman, Faisal and Koli and arrested Golam Mostafa alias Mostafizur Rahman, principal of Hillful Fuzul Technical and BM College in Kamrangirchar on Thursday and Maksudur Rahman alias Mamun (40), director of Dhaka Technical School and College (Medical) in Jatrabari area on Friday. .

It was said in the press conference that Shamsuzzaman and Sanjida Akhtar Koli have a ‘close’ relationship with Sehela Parveen, the chairman’s wife.

Stating that ‘money was transacted’ between them, Harun said, “System analyst AKM Shamsuzzaman used government passwords, authorizations to upload fake certificates on the Technical Education Board website in exchange for money, so there was no chance of getting caught. Besides, they used to exchange money exchange information through WhatsApp.”

It was informed in the police press conference that 25 to 30 more people involved in this gang have been identified.
