The police have filed a case at Saltachara police station in connection with the recovery of gold worth around one and a half crore rupees in Khulna. The accused in the case are – son of Abul Kashem Sardar of Komarpur village of Debhata upazila of Satkhira, the top smuggler of the district Alfredous Alfa, his brother Abdul Alim, Alfa’s brother-in-law Daud Ali Gazi’s son Asaduzzaman alias Milan and Alam Gazi’s son Masum Billah. Also, some other unknown accused have been made in the case. However, while Masum Billah, who was arrested with 12 pieces of gold bars, went to jail, the other accused are absconding.
It has been mentioned in the statement of the case that a team of police including SI Pradeep Vaidya was on check post duty at Khulna Zero Point area around 11:40 am last Saturday. At that time, the Satkhira-bound Tungipara Express from Dhaka was searched. In the meantime, when Masum Billah got down from the car, his movement became suspicious. Later, 12 gold bars wrapped with tape were recovered from two shoes worn on his feet. The weight of which has been one thousand three hundred and ninety nine and seventy four grams. The price has been estimated at one crore thirty four lakh forty thousand three hundred and three taka.
It is also mentioned in the case, Masum Billah, who was detained with gold, told the police that he had collected gold from smuggler Alfredous Alfa, Alfa’s brother Abdul Alim, Alfa’s brother-in-law Asaduzzaman alias Milon and smuggled it to different countries.
Pradeep Vaidya, SI of Labanchara Police Station in Khulna and the complainant of the case, confirmed the matter and said that Bangladesh Police is active in suppressing all crimes including smuggling. Efforts are being made to arrest the other absconding accused in the case.
He also said that after reviewing the CDMS of the accused, it was found that the two cases filed against the accused number two Alpha in Satkhira Sadar Police Station are ongoing. It should be noted that during One Eleven, Alferdous Alpha was arrested with drugs by the joint forces. In this case, the sentence is seven years under the speedy trial law. Besides, many other cases including smuggling and theft of transformers were registered in his name in different police stations.
