The scene of hand grenade explosion at the residence of Sylhet City Corporation’s former mayor and BNP leader Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been caught on CCTV footage.
A hand grenade explosion took place at the residence of Ariful Haque Chowdhury, former mayor of Sylhet City Corporation and advisor to BNP Chairperson.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Azbahar Ali Sheikh said that the incident took place at Kumarpara in Sylhet city at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday.
He said, “Three grenades were thrown and two exploded. An investigation is underway in this regard; Details will be given later.”
Former mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury told reporters, “I was at work in my farm, my wife called me at around 8:30 pm and said that cocktails are being thrown at home. Later I came home.
“In the CCTV footage of the house, two youths threw three cocktails at the gate in quick succession. Another videotaped it. After receiving the news of this incident, the administration people came to the house and collected the footage.
Ariful also said, “If this happens in my house, what will happen to the people of the country? I am insecure. These things are not desirable in the city of harmony. These things were not in the city of religious and political harmony. I heard there were cocktail explosions at the residences of Mirza Abbas in Dhaka and BNP leaders in Jessore.”
