Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam
Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said that Bangladesh will seek an explanation from the United States on the issue of garment worker leader Kalpana Akhtar.
He said this while addressing reporters after a meeting with the Commonwealth pre-election observation delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (November 21).
The state minister said that labor leader Kalpana Akhtar never told us about his risk. He will be asked to explain the comments made by the US about him.
He also said that if Kalpana Akhtar said such things at all, you can also ask him about this.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken recently cited the example of Bangladeshi garment worker leader Kalpana Akhter, saying, “We want to stand by people like Kalpana Akhter, who says she is still alive because the US embassy worked for her.”
In response to another question, the state minister said that there is no reason for Bangladesh to worry about the new labor policy of the United States on labor rights. Because the meeting in which the US Secretary of State said this was the Asia Pacific Economic Conference. Bangladesh was not an issue in this meeting.
