Armed Forces Day is celebrated in Malaysia
Dhaka, November 21, 2023 (BSS): Armed Forces Day 2023 was celebrated in Malaysia with due dignity by the initiative of Bangladesh High Commission.
A reception was organized to mark the day at Hotel Royal Chulan in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, a press release in Dhaka said today.
The Deputy Chief of the Malaysian Navy, Vice Admiral Dato Zulhelmi bin Ethnain, was present as the chief guest at the ceremony. The national anthems of Bangladesh and Malaysia were performed at the beginning of the ceremony. After that, a documentary made on the occasion of Armed Forces Day was screened. Commodore Md Hasan Tariq Mondal, Defense Adviser of the High Commission in Malaysia highlighted the significance of Armed Forces Day in his greeting speech.
At the event, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh appointed to Malaysia Md. Shamim Ahsan highlighted the context of Bangladesh’s struggle and independence at the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At the same time, he highlighted to the guests the fact that under the strong leadership of the Prime Minister, the country will be promoted economically and Bangladesh will be proudly presented to the world.
High Commissioner Shamim Ahsan praised the overall role and contribution of the Bangladesh Armed Forces in the country’s contribution and said that when the entire Bengali freedom-loving people jumped into the armed freedom struggle in response to the call of the Father of the Nation, the Bengali members of the armed forces jumped into the war at Birdarp with them. Subsequently, on 21 November 1971, for the first time, the Army, Navy and Air Force together with the brave freedom fighters launched a coordinated attack against the occupying Pakistani forces, as a result of which Bangladesh established itself as an independent country on the world map on 16 December 1971.
Defense advisors of 30 countries, senior officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces, important officials of various ministries, local Bangladeshi community leaders and High Commission officials were present in the ceremony.
