The Disciplinary Board has given different levels of punishment to 10 students of Khulna University for ragging.
The director of student affairs of the university, Professor Md. Sharif Limon said that this decision was taken at the meeting of the disciplinary board of the university on November 15. The matter was informed to the 10 students on Tuesday.
After reviewing the investigation report, disciplinary action has been taken against the accused students according to the degree of crime, he said, “They will have to pay bond and fine within one month. However, they can appeal against the punishment to the Academic Council as per rules.”
Among the accused, Saif Nawaz of Pharmacy Discipline has been asked to pay a fine of Tk 20,000 and a surety in the presence of his guardian. Five charges against him were proved. They are, abusing the junior batch students for no reason, keeping them in the field till late night, threatening to isolate the junior batch, holding the junior batch leaders accountable for various reasons and speaking in favor of ragging culture.
Discipline of pharmacy in the same crime. Five thousand taka to Sumon Rahman, 15 thousand taka to Sanjida Afrin Mayuri, Md. 15 thousand taka to Noor Alam and Md. Bani Amin has been asked to pay a fine of five thousand rupees and a bond in the presence of the guardian.
Muhammad Zarif of business administration discipline has been expelled for two terms of the third year and fined 10,000 taka for kicking a student named Limon in the chest and hitting his head with a brick. And Hezbollah Tamim, a student of the same discipline, has been warned as Zarif’s partner in crime.
In addition to being caught red-handed with drugs, Urban and Rural Planning Discipline said. Kabirul Islam Bindu, Sandeep Pal and Mojtaba were expelled for two terms of the fourth year and fined 10,000 taka.
At the same time, the students have been asked to provide a bond in the presence of the guardian that their behavior will not violate the university’s disciplinary ordinance.
