Chittagong: 6 shopkeepers have been fined Tk 50,000 for illegally selling octane, petrol and diesel in several shops of Moizzartek, Sijanartek and Shikalbaha areas of Karnaphuli upazila.

Karnaphuli Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Pisush Kumar Chowdhury conducted the operation on Tuesday (November 21).

Ma-Baba Enterprise, Shahjalal Well Suppliers, Shah Chamiya Automobiles, Shahjalal Well Suppliers were fined Tk 10,000 and Tk 40,000 respectively and Abul Kalam Enterprise and Mahbub & Company were fined Tk 5,000 and Tk 10,000 each for selling petrol, diesel and octane without approval.

Piyush Kumar Chowdhury told BanglaNews that the shopkeepers are selling petrol, diesel and octane in bottles openly in front of the shop without paying attention to the rules.

A fine of Tk 50,000 has been imposed as per Section (20) of the Petroleum Act 2016 for selling these oils in a dangerous manner without considering the permission of Fire Service, Department of Environment, Department of Explosives Control and District Administration to sell fuel oil. Besides, legal action will be taken against illegal traders by conducting regular operations to stop the sale of open fuel oil without permission due to the fear of vandalism and accidents.
