The court has framed charges against Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman and 149 activists in the case of Ramna police station on the charge of sabotage.
On Tuesday (November 21), Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Hasibul Haque rejected the plea of acquittal of the accused and framed the complaint.
Through this, the formal trial in this case began. The other notable defendants in the case are ATM Azharul Islam, the former assistant secretary of Jamaat who was sentenced to death in the case of crimes against humanity and Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan.
It is known that on the afternoon of September 19, 2011, a procession of 2,500-3,000 activists led by ATM Azhar attacked the police in front of the Kakrail supermarket and vandalized the vehicles moving on the road while coming from Shantinagar in the capital towards Rajmoni crossing. In this incident, the SI in charge of Kakrail police outpost on the same day. Matiur Rahman filed a case against 130 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir at Ramna police station. After the investigation of the case, on August 22, 2019, the investigation officer of Ramna police station, SI Muhammad Saiful Islam Khan, filed a charge sheet in the court accusing 150 people including Jamaat Amir Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman. One accused died during the pendency of the case.
