Barisal: From Barisal Nagar’s busiest Phalpatti area, Councilor of Ward No. 3 of Gournadi Municipality. Al-Amin Hawladar was allegedly beaten and attempted abduction.
However, in the face of resistance from the locals, the attackers left two motorcycles at the spot and wanted to escape, one was arrested and handed over to the police.
This incident happened on Tuesday (November 21) around 3:30 pm. Municipal councilor Al-Amin said he would file a case. Police officials said that appropriate legal action will be taken after investigating the incident.
Al-Amin Hawladar is the Councilor of Ward No. 3 of Gournadi Municipality and former General Secretary of Gournadi Municipal Jubo League.
He told BanglaNews that he came to Barisal District Commissioner’s office from Gournadi with a work related to four lane land acquisition. From there we went to Phalpatti area of Barisal Nagar to eat Biryani. While entering the biryani shop leaving the motorcycle, several unidentified youths came there on 4-5 motorcycles. They want to know my name from the motorcycle, I give my name and identification thinking that I am from the administration. But as soon as I said my name, they started beating me and tried to drag me on the motorcycle. I got down from the motorcycle after fighting with the assailants a couple of times.
Taib Hawladar, an eyewitness to the incident and a relative of the councillor, said that seeing the matter, the locals came forward and protested and when the attackers gave chase, they fled leaving two different models of motorcycles. While fleeing, one of the attackers was arrested and handed over to the police by the locals.
Councilor Al-Amin Howladar said that he will file a case in this incident, “There is no such incident that comes to mind before, for which I will be tried to be kidnapped.” I and my family are terrified of this incident.
According to local sources, Al-Amin has a dispute with an influential leader of his party.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station said to investigate the matter and take legal action. Anwar Hossain. He said, the locals have caught one person and handed them over to the police, efforts are on to identify his correct identity. Also, inquiries are being made about the attack.
