The Appellate Division ordered to arrange the marriage of the rapist with the girl. The 6-member Appellate Divisional Bench led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan gave this order on Monday. Following the request of the rapist’s parents, the accused Md. Rakibuzzaman Rakib of the same upazila will marry the 17-year-old rape victim in Lalmonirhat, Aditmari upazila. The Lalmonirhat jail authorities have been asked to implement this directive within the next 15 days. This information was given by the lawyer of the accused Md. Aji Ullah.
About the order, he said, on July 13, 2022, the minor girl of Sahabuddin Sabur of Aditmari Upazila of Lalmonirhat was kidnapped by the girl of the same area: Rakibuzzaman. Later on April 8, 2023, a case was filed against Md Rakibuzzaman Rakib on charges of kidnapping and rape. The police rescued the kidnapped girl on the same day. Rakib was arrested. The medical report shows that the girl is pregnant. Although the unborn child later perishes. After the abduction, fake marriage certificates were created to live as husband and wife. The High Court bench granted bail to the accused in the case last June. The government applied to the Appellate Division seeking suspension of this bail order. Rakib’s bail was suspended after the hearing. Later, the accused filed an application seeking the withdrawal of the suspension of bail. After yesterday’s hearing, he gave the above order. In the hearing, the accused told the court in writing that both parties agreed to arrange the marriage of the accused with the victim. Bail was sought for the accused on the condition of marriage to the victim. The court allowed it and directed the jail authorities to arrange the marriage within 15 days. At the same time, he fixed the date of the next order on December 4. In this, all the documents including the marriage certificate are asked to be submitted to the court. The lawyer for the accused said that the Supreme Court will consider the bail of the accused after filing the marriage certificate.
