State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said that Bangladesh will seek an explanation from the United States on the issue of garment workers leader Kalpana Akhtar.
He said this while addressing reporters after a meeting with the Commonwealth pre-election observation delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (November 21).
The state minister said that labor leader Kalpana Akhtar never told us about his risk. He will be asked to explain the comments made by the US about him.
He also said that you can also ask Kalpana Akhtar whether she said such things or not.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken recently cited the example of Bangladeshi garment worker leader Kalpana Akhter and said, “We want to stand by people like Kalpana Akhtar, who says she is still alive because the US Embassy worked on her behalf.”
In response to a question, the state minister said that there is no reason for Bangladesh to worry about the new policy of the United States on labor rights. Because, the meeting in which the US Secretary of State said this was the Asia Pacific Economic Conference. Bangladesh was not an issue in this meeting.
In response to a question from journalists, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that everyone’s participation in the election increases the beauty. However, a terrorist political party, which does not believe in the independence of Bangladesh, does not believe in the constitution and constitution of Bangladesh; There is no need to show off or beautify someone like that. The participation of any one or any particular party is not mandatory to make the election acceptable.
When asked whether the Commonwealth pre-election observation delegation will come to observe the election, the state minister said that this decision will be taken by their officials. But, we hope, they will come. We will ensure their logistics and protocol, whatever is required.
He further said, regarding the interference in internal politics, it seems that there is a qualitative difference between this delegation and those who have expressed such expressions before.
