Dhaka: The BNP has announced another two days of blockade demanding the release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia and the release of party leaders and elections under a neutral government.
Next Wednesday and Thursday (November 22nd and 23rd) 48 hours total blockade program will be observed across the country.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi virtually announced the blockade at a press conference on Monday (November 20) at 4 pm.
Rizvi said that the 48-hour hartal called by BNP will end on Tuesday (November 21) at 6 am. In continuation of the ongoing movement, a 48-hour blockade program will be held on roads, railways and waterways from 6 am on Wednesday (22 November) to 6 am on Friday (24 November). Like-minded parties including BNP will carry out this program.
Meanwhile, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Colonel (retd) Ali Ahmad Bir Bikram has called for a 48-hour nationwide strike on Wednesday and Thursday (November 22 and 23) in support of BNP’s blockade.
On October 28, the day after the attack and clashes surrounding the BNP’s mass meeting in Dhaka, the party held a morning-evening hartal across the country. They started the blockade program for three consecutive days from October 31 with a break of one day.
After that, BNP observed the blockade on November 5 and 6 with a break on Friday and Saturday. Then on November 7, a one-day break followed by a blockade on November 8 and 9.
Later on November 12 and 13, BNP called for the fourth phase of the blockade. After the fourth phase on November 14, the party observed the fifth phase of the blockade for two days from November 15.
Later, BNP called for a two-day hartal program from November 19. After a day’s break, the party called a 48-hour hartal for the sixth phase from Wednesday
