Sylhet: A Chhatra League worker named Arif Mia (19) was stabbed to death due to an earlier dispute in Sylhet Nagar’s Tilagarh.
The incident took place in front of the city’s Shahi Eidgah TV gate around 12:15 on Monday (November 20).
Son of Phatik Mia of Shahi Eidgah TV Gate area of Arif Nagar. He was an active worker of the district Awami League’s organizing secretary advocate Ranjit Sarkar’s group, police said. It has been alleged that former District Chhatra League President and City Corporation Ward Councilor No. 36 Hiran Mahmud was hacked to death by the supporters of the Nipu Group after finding him alone.
According to local sources, former District Chhatra League president and current councilor Hiran Mahmud Nipu group workers Junaid (20), Anas (20), Ravi (21), Helal (27), Saqib (20), Mamun (28) along with previous disputes. Arif was ambushed by unidentified assailants in a pre-planned manner. Meanwhile, they left Arif on the road after cutting him with a sharp weapon and stabbing him to death. The assailants inflicted 12 stab wounds on his left arm, left thigh, leg and other parts of his body with sharp weapons.
Later the locals rescued him and took him to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead. Hospital doctors said that he died of excessive bleeding.
Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital police camp member Balaram told Banglanews that the body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy.
SMP’s Shahparan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Khair did not receive a call to inquire about this.
