The Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has sent owner Sallah Uddin Mehdi and medical technologist Atiqur Rahman to jail for keeping the doctor’s signature on the medical test report pad of Dhaka Gastro-Liver Center.
When they surrendered in court on Monday, Magistrate (Joint District and Sessions Judge) Alaul Akbar gave this order. At this time, Farida Yasmin, the pathology consultant doctor of the institution, was fined Tk 50,000 and given bail.
Kamrul Hasan, the prosecuting officer and food inspector of the case, said that the owner of The Dhaka Gastro-Liver Center on the third floor of Shan Tower in Shantinagar applied for a new trade license on November 5. On November 12, Health Inspector Kamrul Hasan of Region-2 of Dhaka South City Corporation visited. He found the signature of Dr. Farida Yasmin, Pathology Consultant of the institute, on the ‘blank pad’ inside the computer printer of the institute’s lab.
When the health inspector asked about this, the managing director of the institution, Sallah Uddin Mehdi, told him, “The doctor has signed in advance that he is on a week’s leave”, which is used in the test report. Later the health inspector took immediate written confession regarding doctor’s signature left on the blank pad and seized 30 signed white pads as samples.
The health inspector referred the matter to the Corporation Special Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
He said, such activities of the Gastro-Liver Center amount to cheating the service users.
