A teenager was beaten to death by calling him ‘thief thief’ and accused of theft in Bogra. The deceased has been identified as Joy Islam (17) in the house of Montu Mia in Kazi Nuruil village of Lahiripara union of Bogra Sadar upazila on Sunday night. He is the son of Swadhin Mia of Baruipara village in Shakharia Union of Bogra Sadar.
The police have detained three people for questioning in the case of the beating death of the teenager. The body was recovered and sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Bogra Sadar Police Station OC Md. Saihan Oliullah said that preparations are underway to file a case in this incident. According to preliminary information, the teenager was beaten to death on suspicion of being a thief. Three people have been detained for questioning in connection with the murder. Their names cannot be released for the sake of investigation. According to local and police sources, the teenager entered the house of Motu, the son of deceased Maqbul Master of Kazi Nuril village around 9:30 pm on Sunday. The family members including Montu and his brother Ashraful came out of the house and started shouting ‘thief thief’ on seeing him. In fear, the teenager tried to hide by climbing a tree near the house. He was beaten down from the tree and tied up accusing him of theft. When word spread that a thief had entered the village, local people came to the house. Without knowing the details, the teenager was beaten up and died on the spot.
Two local people said that the local people beat up the teenager without hearing the details of why he came to Montu’s house. A few people said to take the seriously injured teenager to the hospital, but no one agreed. As a result, he died on the spot. Montu Mia and his brother Ashraful Islam locked themselves in the house after the incident.
The relatives of the deceased Joy Islam said that he is not a thief. No one knows why he was killed. He left the house at night talking about recharging money on his mobile phone. He said he would come back after a while but he never came home.
