The homes of the three Bangladeshi tourists who died in the houseboat fire in the Dal Lake of Kashmir in India are in Mirsarai and Raujan upazilas of Chittagong.
Among the dead, the house of Anindya Koshal (49), executive engineer of public works department, is in Mirsarai upazila. The houses of sub-divisional engineer Emon Dasgupta (38) and contractor Mainuddin Chowdhury (47) of the same company are in Kadalpur and Binajuri villages of Raujan respectively.
Reportedly a former student of Anindya Chuet and Eamon Kuet.
Kadalpur Union Chairman Nizam Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury of Raujan Upazila, Uncle of the deceased Mainuddin’s father-in-law said that Mainuddin was working as a public works contractor. On November 3, Moinuddin went to Beda in Kashmir with Anindya and Iman. They boarded a houseboat named Safina there. They confirmed the death after hearing the news of the fire in the media on Saturday evening
Referring to the local fire service in Kashmir, the Indian news media reported that a houseboat caught fire near jetty number 9 of Dal Lake around 5:15 am local time on Saturday. Later it spread to other houseboats. At least five houseboats were burnt in this incident. A few others were damaged. At least seven people were injured. The cause of the fire is not yet known, investigation is ongoing.
