Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Ghorashal Palash Urea Fertilizer Factory in Narsingdi on Sunday.

After five years of work, production was officially opened at Ghorashal Palash Urea Fertilizer Factory in Narsingdi.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the inauguration of this ‘fuel efficient and environment friendly’ factory at 1:15 pm on Sunday. He then released the Fertilizer Factory Commemorative Postage Stamp, Inaugural Envelope and Seal.

Later, the Prime Minister addressed a gathering there. Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun presided over the event, Industry State Minister Kamal Ahmed Majumdar, local parliament member Dr. Anwarul Ashraf Khan Dileep and Zakia Sultana, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Industries spoke.

Prime Minister went to Narsingdi for the first time after 2004. He will inaugurate various development projects of this district around 3 pm. After that, Mosleh Uddin will address the public meeting organized by Narsingdi District Awami League at Bhuiyan Stadium.

From there, the Prime Minister will leave for Dhaka by helicopter in the evening.

South Asia’s largest ‘eco-friendly’ Ghorashal Palash Urea Fertilizer Factory has already started trial production in Palash Upazila of Narsingdi. The factory will produce 9 lakh 24 thousand metric tons of urea fertilizer annually. Production will be 2 thousand 800 metric tons per day.

The construction of the factory started in October 2018. The onset of the Covid pandemic in 2020 interrupted the infrastructure work of the project.

On August 16 of the same year, China’s CC Seven and Japan’s contractor company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited began working in earnest.

The total cost of implementing the project built on 110 acres of land has been 15 thousand 500 crores. Out of this, the Government of Bangladesh allocates Tk 4,580,210,000. And the joint consortium of Japanese and Chinese contractors Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Limited and The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited gave a loan of Tk 10 thousand 920 crores.
