Mizanur Rahman (39), convener of the Sadar Upazila Volunteers Party, accused in 19 cases of setting fire to three vehicles during the siege of BNP Jamaat in Bogra, has been arrested. Members of RAB-12 Bogra Company arrested him from Motijheel area of Dhaka on Saturday night. He was sent to Bogra Jail by the court on Sunday afternoon.
In a press release in the afternoon, RAB-12 Bogra Company Commander Superintendent of Police Mir Monir Hossain said that Mizanur Rahman is the son of deceased Afsar Ali of Gokul Paschimpara of Sadar Upazila. Information of 19 cases has been found in his name in different police stations of Bogra. During the siege, a covered van and two trucks were poured petrol and set on fire on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Baghopara and Dighalkandi areas of Sadar. Mizanur Rahman is named in four cases under Special Powers Act, Anti-Terrorism Act, Obstruction of Public Works and Explosives Act filed at Sadar police station. Under his leadership, the protesters poured petrol on cars, set fire, vandalized, and detonated cocktails.
He also said that Mizanur fled to Dhaka to avoid arrest but planned and ordered sabotage from there. He was arrested from Motijheel area of Dhaka on Saturday night after receiving a tip-off. He was handed over to Sadar police station on Sunday. He was sent to Bogra Jail in the afternoon by the court.
In this context, member secretary of Bogra District Volunteer Party, Abu Hasan said, Mizanur Rahman is the convener of the sadar upazila branch of his organization. He has been implicated in a false case. It is not possible to suppress the movement to overthrow the government by false cases and arrests. Their movement will continue.
On the other hand, Bogra DB Police arrested Upazila BNP General Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Azad from Kahalu Municipal area on Saturday night. Kahalu police station SI Nazmul Haque said that there is a sabotage case against Azad in Kahalu police station. On Sunday, he was sent to Bogra Jail by the court.
