Two days before taking charge as the Mayor of Barisal City Corporation, the newly elected Mayor Abul Khair Abdullah has highlighted various inconsistencies and mismanagement of the city building in an exchange meeting with the media persons. This Sunday morning, the new mayor called this discussion meeting at the rented house on Kalushah road in the city.
In the meeting, Abul Khair Abdullah said, ‘The quality of those who have been managing the city buildings for so long is sub-standard. The most regrettable thing is that in the new journey that we will start, no officer wants to join here in the position of chief executive. Why not, I’ve been trying to figure that out for four months. Whoever I talk to, they complain that there is no honor when they go here, they lose respect. A secretary joined a few days back and wants to be transferred again. I left him with many requests. He is also on vacation.’
Questioning the qualifications of the officers and employees of the corporation, the newly elected mayor said, ‘The quality of those who have been running the city corporation for so long is sub-standard. I am not here to do business. I have come to serve people. So I don’t want to interfere unfairly with anyone. But if someone has done injustice, corruption, then he will not be exempted.’
