Bangladesh High Commission organized Sheikh Russell Football Tournament in Malaysia
Dhaka, November 12, 2023 (BSS): The semi-final and final games of the Sheikh Russell Memorial Football Tournament organized by the Bangladesh High Commission were held in Kuala Lumpur on the occasion of Sheikh Russell’s 60th birthday.
A press release received in Dhaka informed that the game was held at the Challenger Sports Center in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday afternoon. In the final match, UCSI University team won the championship by 4-2 against BD FC Club.
The High Commission organized this tournament with the participation of 12 teams of the Bangladesh community living in Malaysia as part of various programs under the motto ‘Sheikh Russell Radiant, Fearless Nirmal Durjoy’.
Bangladesh High Commissioner appointed to Malaysia after the game. Shamim Ahsan distributed the prizes among the players of the champion and runner-up teams. Shamim Ahsan congratulated the players for participating in the Sheikh Russell Memorial Football Tournament and expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to all those involved in the organization.
He paid tribute to the memory of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Shishu Russell and all those who were martyred on August 15 and wished for the forgiveness of their souls. He said that on the night of August 15, 1975, the killers killed the child Russell brutally to wipe out the heirs of Bangabandhu’s blood. Child Sheikh Russell was a symbol of simplicity, fearlessness and serenity and his ideals and character traits are ideal for all children and teenagers. At the age of 10, we see his leadership qualities, endurance and patience manifested. He called upon the expatriates to show Sheikh Russell’s upbringing and human qualities to the present and future generations.
Prominent leaders of the Bangladesh community living in Malaysia and officials of the High Commission were present at the prize distribution ceremony.
