Mymensingh: A young man named Abdur Razzak Rakib (24) was killed in Mymensingh after being stabbed by Jubo League leaders and activists. Rakib is the nephew of Abu Bakr Siddique Sagar, Agriculture and Cooperative Affairs Secretary of Mymensingh Metropolitan Awami League.
Two others were injured in the incident. They have been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The murder took place on Saturday (October 11) around 8:30 pm in the city’s China Mode.
The deceased Abdur Razzak is the son of Osman Gani of Kalibari area of Ward No. 32 of Rakib Nagar.
The injured are Sadek Ali (32) son of Zayed Uddin of the same area and Shahid Mia (40) son of deceased Akhtar Ali of Ward No. 33 Char Jhaugara area. They are bus drivers by profession.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station Shah Kamal Akand confirmed the truth of the murder and said that a youth named Mazharul was arrested and handed over to the police by the locals for his involvement in the incident. A case is being filed.
According to the family of the deceased and local sources, Sharif Ahmed, State Minister for Housing and Public Works attended various functions including Jubo League’s foundation anniversary in Tarakanda and Phulpur of the district on Saturday. Shawon Parvez, a resident of Mymensingh city’s Charpara and expelled leader of the Mahanagara Jubo League, and his staff attended these events with three separate Hyage cars. On their way back to Mymensingh city after the program at night, when they reached the toll plaza at China Mor, Shaun Parvez and his workers got into an argument with a truck driver about giving a side. At one point, Jubo League activists started beating the truck driver. At that time, when others including the local bus driver tried to stop them, the Jubo League activists got angry and ran away with stab wounds. Abdur Razzaq Rakib, Sadek Ali, Shahid Mia were injured in this. In this situation, when they were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, doctor Abdur Razzak declared Rakib dead.
Abu Bakr Siddique Sagar, secretary of agriculture and cooperative affairs of Awami League, uncle of the deceased, said that Jubo League leader Shawon Parvez and his workers caused this incident. I demand immediate arrest of those involved in this incident and exemplary punishment.
In this regard, Russell Pathan, senior joint convener of Mymensingh Metropolitan Jubo League, said that Shaon Parvez was expelled from the Jubo League about one and a half years ago due to violation of party discipline. Jubo League has nothing to do with him.
Meanwhile, when the news of Rakib’s murder spread in the area, the locals blocked the road at China Junction and stopped the traffic. Later around 11 pm, Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Raihanul Islam, General Secretary of District Motor Workers Union Sanwar Hossain Chanu, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station Shah Kamal Akand and other officials and leaders arrived at the Patgudam bridge intersection of the city and brought the situation under control.
