Chittagong: Two of the three people killed in houseboat fire at Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir, India, are two engineers from the Public Works Department.
One of them is an ex-student of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and another of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).
The other person killed was a contractor. Seven more people were burnt in this incident.
On Saturday (November 11) around 5:30 a.m. local time, a fire broke out in a houseboat named Safina near jetty number 9 of Dal Lake.
The three tourists killed are Rangamati Public Works Department Executive Engineer Anindya Kaushal, Public Works Department Sub-Divisional Engineer Emon Dasgupta and contractor Md. Mainuddin.
Among them, Anindya Kaushal is a former student of Civil Engineering Department of CUET in 2004-05 academic year and Emon Dasgupta is a former student of Civil Engineering Department of CUET in 2006-07 academic year.
Swapan Kumar Nath, father of deceased Anindya Kaushal said, Anindya went to India for pilgrimage on November 3. He was supposed to return in a day or two. They are trying to communicate in India. But till now the administration there has not contacted them.
A friend of Anindya Kaushal named Alamgir told Banglanews, Anindya Kaushal is my childhood friend. His death was confirmed through his relatives on Saturday. He was a very brilliant student. His passing has cast a shadow of grief on our friends.
Another friend of Anindya Kaushal and Professor of Civil Engineering Department at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology. Mohammad Bashir Jisan told Banglanews that we were students of the same department in Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology. We are very close friends. I couldn’t believe hearing the news that a group of our batch had died. Later, when I spoke to his family, I confirmed this. We are saddened by the loss of our friend.
