Bangladesh Monitor, a travel and tourism publication, has launched a new award program for the country’s travel, tourism and hospitality sector. The new award program was officially launched at a function organized at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Saturday.

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Professor Shibli Rubaiyat-ul-Islam presided over the event. Among others, Bangladesh Tourism Board Chief Executive Abu Tahir Mohammad Jaber and Bangladesh Monitor Editor Kazi Wahidul Alam spoke.

Kazi Wahidul Alam said on the occasion that such an award program has been demanded by those involved in the tourism industry for a long time. We are very happy that we are finally going to successfully launch the award program today. It is our intention to recognize those individuals and organizations who have been making valuable contributions to the development of this important industry of the country. According to the concerned experts, this industry is capable of creating massive employment opportunities while playing a significant role in the economic development of Bangladesh.

Awards will be presented in various categories under four broad segments, tourism, travel, hospitality and restaurants. Different service sectors are included in each category. A judging panel consisting of various experts associated with the respective sectors, civil society, media and others will select the awardees. Public opinion given online, public perception, judge panel’s own opinion and other factors will be considered in the selection. CSR activities will be specially considered in case of organization.

Interested individuals or organizations may submit entries in one or more categories for nomination. A separate entry should be submitted for each category. Last date for submission of entries is 31 December. Public voting will be held for individuals and institutions selected in preliminary consideration. Those interested can vote for their preferred individuals and organizations from January 15 to February 28 next year. The names of the awardees will be announced at a special event in Dhaka sometime in May next year.
