Ansar deployment at 13 points for security of Dhaka-Mymensingh railway

The administration has placed 13 points of Ansar for extra security on the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway due to the fear of sabotage during the siege.

Gazipur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Syed Murad confirmed this information to The Daily Star.

UNO said, ‘Ansar and village police have been deployed at important places for 2 days to ensure extra security in Joydevpur and Tongi. Upazila Ansar and VDP officials have been ordered to deploy the required number of Ansar for the security of the railway line.

Gazipur Sadar Upazila Ansar and VDP official Ganesh Yadav told The Daily Star that 58 Ansar members have been deployed at 6 points in Joydevpur.

The points are Dhirashram Paved Road Junction, BRTC Depot, Shibbari Bus Stand, Bhawal Railway Station, Joydevpur Railway Station and Dhirashram Railway Station.

APC Abu Bakar on duty at Dhirashram railway station was seen on duty on the railway line.

When asked, Shahidul Islam, in-charge (inspector) of Joydevpur Railway Police Outpost said, ‘There are 13 railway stations in Tongi-Joydevpur. 52 additional Ansars have been deployed at each station with 4 each.’

Tongi Railway Police Outpost In-charge (SI) Chhotan Sharma said, ‘There are 5 railway gates under me. There are 4 Ansar members at each gate.’

Jaidebpur Railway Junction station master Hanif Ali said that 4 members of Ansar are deployed at a total of 13 points.

It is to be noted that during the blockade called by some parties including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, attempts were made to cut railway communication by setting fire to railway lines at several places on the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway.
