Bangladesh Jasdar urges not to announce election date before reconciliation
--

Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Bangladesh Jasad) has urged not to announce the date of the upcoming 12th National Parliament election before a political compromise is reached. This call was made in a press release signed by Sajjad Hossain Sohag, office secretary of the party on Sunday (November 12).

According to the notification, a meeting of the standing committee was held virtually on Saturday (November 11) night under the chairmanship of Sharif Nurul Ambia, president of Bangladesh Jasdar. The upcoming national parliament elections, the role of the government and the election commission, the role of the party, etc. have been discussed.

According to the press release, we observe with deep concern that the Election Commission is going to announce the schedule of the national parliament election before ensuring a fair, free and impartial election environment, ignoring the repeated calls of most of the political parties including the Bangladesh Jasad. Due to the arrogance, lack of power and stubbornness of the ruling government, political deadlock and insecurity of public life across the country have been created today. The farcical electoral farce has raised fears of a repeat of the 2014 election without a vote. The life force of democracy is being strangled, the socio-economic condition of the country is seriously deteriorating and national sovereignty is being challenged.

It is also said that the government is also blocking the way of dialogue to solve the political crisis by arresting the opposition political opponents and filing cases. We immediately condemn the mass arrest of opposition politicians from this meeting and demand their release. We call upon the government once again to avoid the repression-arrest-case-assault route and ensure a participatory election environment through dialogue. Our appeal to the Election Commission, play a positive role for political reconciliation. Until that happens, don’t force the election date to deepen the country’s existing political crisis.

Bangladesh Jasdar General Secretary Nazmul Haque Pradhan, Executive President Indu Nandan Dutta, Standing Committee Members Mushtaq Hossain, Hemayetullah Hiru, Shahidul Islam Meeran, ATM Mohabbat Ali, Rafiqul Islam Khokon, Nurul Alam Montu, Karim Sikder, Manzoor Ahmed, Anwarul Islam participated in the meeting. Babu, Nasirul Haque Nawab etc.
