A youth was killed, two others injured in Mymensingh when miscreants stabbed him. A young man has been arrested by the police on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
OC Shah Kamal Akand of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station said that the incident took place at the city’s China Mor at around 8:30 pm on Saturday.
According to the police, traffic was stopped on the Sherpur-Netrakona and Kishoreganj roads for about an hour due to tension between the workers and local residents.
The deceased Abdur Razzaq Rakib (24) is the son of Osman Gani of Ward No. 32 Kalibari area of the city.
The names of the two injured were not immediately known. They have been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Besides, the police did not reveal the identity of the arrested youth.
About the locals, OC Kamal said, “There was an argument between the passengers of the microbus and the truck driver over giving sides on the road. Due to this, some youths got down from the microbus and abused and beat the truck driver.
“When the local transport workers and traders intervened, the miscreants stabbed the people present. Three people were injured. Locals rescued them and took them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared Rakib dead.”
After the incident, if there was tension in the area, additional police were deployed to control the situation, said the OC.
