The High Court ordered Habibur Rahman Habib, advisor to the Chairperson of BNP, who did not appear before the High Court because of ‘insulting speech’ about a judge in the High Court. This order was given today on Wednesday.

Earlier, the High Court judge. On October 15, the High Court issued an order with a suo motu rule when the statement given by Pabna district BNP president Habibur Rahman about Akhtaruzzaman was spread on YouTube. Where Habibur Rahman was ordered to appear in court on November 6 to explain his statement. However, as he did not appear in the High Court on Wednesday, the High Court bench comprising of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Raziq-al-Jalil ordered the Deputy Attorney General Kazi Mainul Hasan to talk to the relevant law and order forces within two days to inform about Habib’s position and further in this regard. November 8 was fixed for the order. Following that, the state lawyer told the court on Wednesday that he had spoken to the law enforcement agencies. They informed him that Habibur Rahman could not be found at Habib’s permanent and current address. His family members said they do not know where Habibur Rahman is. After learning this information from the Deputy Attorney General, today the High Court ordered the IG of Police to produce Habib immediately.

Deputy Attorney General Kazi Mainul Hasan was representing the state in the court. And lawyer Khandaker Reza-e-Raqib was on behalf of BTRC. BTRC’s lawyer told the court that according to the order, the ‘derogatory statements’ made by Habibur Rahman Habib have been removed from YouTube and Facebook.

On February 8, 2018, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years in prison in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case by the then judge of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5. Akhtaruzzaman. Then in 2019 Akhtaruzzaman was appointed as a judge of the High Court. A contempt of court rule was issued against Habibur Rahman Habib, advisor to BNP chairperson, on the charge of ‘insulting speech’ about this judge.
