The police have withdrawn an SI named Shahidul Islam after a picture of a man wearing a police bullet proof jacket appeared on social media in Bogra’s Dhunte.

Earlier on October 31, a volunteer league leader named Sajedul Islam Sagar wearing a bulletproof jacket posted a picture on social media. When there was widespread criticism of the incident, he was arrested the next day by Dhunat police station. At the same time, SI Shahidul Islam, who was in charge of the bulletproof jacket, was recalled and ordered to be attached to the police lines.
Sajedul Islam is a resident of Nanjar Para village in Neemgachi Union of Dhunot Upazila. He is the Joint General Secretary of the Upazila Swachhasevak League.
According to police and local sources, SI Shahidul was on duty in Sonahata Bazar area of the upazila during the siege along with some members of the police around noon on October 31. Meanwhile, SI Shahidul Islam took off the bulletproof jacket he was wearing and placed it on the table at Sonahata Bit policing office.
Volunteer League leader Sajedul Islam was also there at that time. Sajedul took a picture wearing the jacket without everyone noticing. Later he posted that picture on Facebook story.
The picture went viral in no time. Various negative comments are also written by Facebook users. Sajedul later deleted the post.
Dhunat Police Station OC Rabiul Islam said SI Shahidul was withdrawn on the same day for neglect of duty. Yesterday Monday he was fully cleared and attached to the police lines.
Meanwhile, no further action was taken against Sajedul as he admitted his mistake. Moreover, wearing that jacket, he did not even go outside the police office. For this, Sajedul was released with a bond to his father that he would not do such a thing again.
