The police fired rubber bullets and tearshells at Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists during the protest march in Bogra on the first day of the third phase of the 48-hour blockade called by the opposition. At least 10 activists were injured.
According to Jamaat sources, in support of the blockade, a protest march was led by Amir Principal Abidur Rahman Sohel of Jamaat-e-Islami Bogra city branch in Baghopara area of Bogra city second bypass road and Baghopara area of Bogra-Rangpur highway around 7 am on Wednesday morning. Soon after the rally started, the police and DB police started firing rubber bullets at the activists. At that time, when the leaders and activists stood on the road, a chase took place. Later, the Jamaat activists moved away from the highway to avoid the unpleasant situation. At least six activists were injured. First aid was given to the injured.
At the same time, Jamaat-e-Islami activists blocked the highway and took out a protest march in Baghopara area of Bogra-Rangpur highway. At the end of the procession, the police fired tearshells and rubber bullets during the rally. Four activists were injured in this incident.
On the other hand, the police chased and dispersed the Jamaat protest procession at Erulia on the Bogra-Naogaon highway.
In this context, Amir Principal of Jamaat-e-Islami Bogra city branch, Abidur Rahman Sohel strongly condemned and protested the incident of firing by the police in a peaceful procession and said that the police attacked the Jamaat leaders and activists to provoke violence. He called on the police administration to stand by the people in the movement for the people’s right to vote.
