Seven members of the same family were killed and two others were injured in a tragic road accident in Hathazari, Chittagong yesterday. On the other hand, four people, including the bus driver, were killed in a speeding bus accident in Mymensingh. Three more people were killed on the roads in other parts of the country. At least 24 people were injured in these road accidents and admitted to different hospitals.
Patia-Chandanaish and Hathajari (Chittagong) Correspondent said that seven passengers including two women and three children were killed and two others seriously injured in a CNG-driven autorickshaw hit by a passenger bus yesterday afternoon in Hathajari of the city. The deceased are Chinu Rani Das (45), wife of Sachindra Das of Satbaria village of Chandnaish upazila, Shubo Das (27), son of Sachindra Das, Rita Rani Das Maya (35), daughter of Narayan Das, her twin sons Dwip Das (4) and Digant Das (4). 4) and his daughters Varsha Das (10) and Srabanti Das (18). They all belong to the same family. Their home is in Mohammadpur village of Chandanish upazila. Apart from this, Sachindra Dash’s other son Bappa Dash (31) and CNG driver Biplab Majumdar (28) have been admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Chittagong Range DIG Noore Alam Mina said that a Marsa Paribahan bus was coming from Khagrachari to Chittagong. In Charia area, the CNG autorickshaw traveling from Hathazari to Fatikchari overturned and fell off the road. At this time, the CNG riders hit the road. Seven passengers of CNG were killed on the spot. Two others were injured.
According to the Mymensingh office, four people were killed and 20 injured in a bus accident at Shikarikanda bypass on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Eight seriously injured people have been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The accident happened last Monday at 12:30 pm. Two of the dead have been identified. They are bus driver Saddam Hossain (60) and his associate Md Rakib (32). The deceased Saddam was a resident of Seedstore in Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh and Rakib (32) was a resident of Dhanikhola village in Trishal Upazila. The identities of the other two dead have not been found.
Shah Kamal Akand, OC of Kotwali Model Police Station, said that the bus named Faiyaz and Taj, which was going from Mohakhali in the capital to Sherpur, hit a pickup van and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw from behind while overtaking at Shikarikanda, adjacent to the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway bypass at 12:30 am. As a result, the bus lost control and climbed on the divider and hit the pillar of the billboard. In this incident, two passengers of the bus were killed on the spot and others were seriously injured. Police and fire service personnel came to the spot and rescued the injured two others died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The passengers complained that the bus was running at a reckless speed after crossing the Jaidebpur intersection. The passengers were scared and warned the driver repeatedly but the driver did not listen. The OC also said that the bodies of the two victims have been handed over to their families. The bodies of the other two have been kept in the hospital morgue. Police have registered a case in this regard.
Benapole (Jeshore) Correspondent said that a motorcyclist named Rimon Hasan Rakib (32) was killed by a covered van in Jessore. Another person named Habib (26) was injured in this incident. The accident took place in front of Navaron New Market on the Jessore-Benapole highway last Monday midnight. The deceased Rakib Jashore is the son of Abdul Ghafoor of Purbabarandi Para area. Injured Habib is a resident of Hamidpur area of Jessore city.
Quoting eyewitnesses, Sub-Inspector of Navaron Highway Police Station Siddharth Chattaji said that Rakib and Habib were on their way to Benapole on a motorcycle when they overtook a covered van at the spot. Due to the impact of the covered van, they fell on the road. When they were taken to the Upazila Health Complex in critical condition, the doctor declared Rakib dead. Habib has been sent to Jessore 250 bed General Hospital for better treatment.
Noakhali representative said that an unidentified woman (48) was killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle in Sadar Upazila. The accident took place on the Sonapur-Chairmanghat road in Dharmapur union of the upazila early yesterday morning.
Police and locals said that the woman was seen in different areas of Dharmapur Union of the upazila for several days. The mentally unbalanced woman used to walk alone day and night. Locals saw the dead body of the woman lying on the Sonapur-Chairmanghat road yesterday morning. It is believed that the woman was crushed under the car sometime in the morning and died.
According to the Khulna Bureau, a young man named Mithu Munshi (30) was killed in front of Fultala police station in the city last Monday evening. The deceased is the son of Abu Zafar Munsi of Payagram, Mithu Phultala.
Quoting eyewitnesses, Fultala police station OC Mohammad Abdul Haque said that in the evening Mithu was riding his newly bought motorcycle while overtaking a van near the police station gate and was crushed under a truck coming from the opposite direction. He died on the spot. The body is in the custody of Nawapara Highway Police. The killer truck has also been seized.
According to Barisal Bureau, a private car lost control in Gournadi upazila yesterday morning and hit the engine driven van and fell into the pond next to the highway.
Gournadi Highway Police Station Deputy Inspector (SI) Kabir Hossain said that a woman passenger of the van was injured in the accident. He was treated at Upazila Health Complex. On the other hand, the private car had no passengers except the driver. The driver fled immediately after the accident. Later, a fire service team reached the spot and rescued the car.
