Mayor of the port city M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has claimed that Chittagong will become the hub of world trade in the implementation of the development projects of the government.

He made this demand in a discussion at the temporary office of the City Corporation on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s birthday on Thursday.

The Mayor said, “Lakhs of crores of rupees have been invested in Chittagong to implement the plan of the Prime Minister to build a better Bangladesh.” Industrial cities, tunnels, expressways have been built. Metrorail will be built, capacity of ports and airports will be increased.”

Stating that 2.5 thousand crores have been given only for the development of the city’s road system, he said, “Tk. 10 thousand crores are also being invested in flood relief. If these plans are implemented, Chittagong will become the hub of world trade, Chittagong’s unemployment problem will be solved.”

Rezaul Karim said that under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has stood up with pride on the world stage, “Sheikh Hasina has brought back people’s right to rice and voting rights in the country, ignoring the bloodshed of undemocratic forces. Had he not survived on August 15, we might have lost our sovereignty.

“When the country is moving at a fast pace under his leadership, the West is indulging in various conspiracies. However, ignoring all the obstacles of the West, the Prime Minister has built the Padma Bridge, showing us the dream of becoming residents of a developed, smart Bangladesh.”

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Chittagong City Corporation Secretary Khaled Mahmud, Two Panel Mayor Afroza Kalam, Mayor Gias Uddin Chowdhury, Councilor Hasan Murad Biplab, Abul Hasnat Belal, Abdul Mannan, Abdus Salam Masum also spoke in this event.

Quran Khatam, Milad Mahfil and special prayers are organized before the speech session.
