A show cause notice has been given to two office assistants of Chittagong City Corporation. This notice was given in an order signed by Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of City Corporation on Tuesday.
The two who received the notice are Office Assistant Habibur Rahman and Faiz Ahmed of the Establishment Branch of the Secretariat. Show-cause notices have reportedly been issued against them for failure to produce the files even after being summoned.
When asked about this, Chief Executive Officer of City Corporation Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam did not agree to comment.
An official on condition of anonymity said, “The Chief Executive Officer has called for some files. They did not present it at the right time. He expressed dissatisfaction with this. So they have been issued show cause notices.’
However, talking to several officials of the City Corporation, it is known that the City Corporation has appointed more than 130 workers in the last two quarter years without any kind of notification. Government employment regulations experts call the incident of hiring people without notification as a serious irregularity. According to the Act, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the implementation of all decisions and administration of the City Corporation. But it is alleged that the secretariat department has made these appointments in the absence and inconspicuousness of the chief executive officer. The officials and employees have also complained of nepotism and money transactions in the appointment. When the matter comes to the attention of the Chief Executive Officer, he summons the relevant files. But with the connivance of the officials of the secretariat department, the files were neglected. It is also reported that one employee hung up the phone and ran away.
