Newly elected Mayor Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury has officially taken charge of Sylhet City Corporation.

On Tuesday around 3:30 PM, the outgoing mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury handed over the duties to the new mayor at Nagar Bhaban in Bandarbazar of the city.

Outgoing Mayor Ariful Haque congratulated the new Mayor and announced that he would always extend his hand of cooperation in the development of this city.

At that time, apart from Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Affairs Minister Imran Ahmed, the wife and children of the outgoing and newly elected mayor, the officers and employees of the City Corporation and Awami League leaders were present.

Earlier, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA). At that time Awami League organizing secretary Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, Sylhet District Awami League Treasurer Shamser Jamal, Councilor Azadur Rahman Azad and Sylhet Metropolitan Jubo League President Alam Khan Mukti were present.

Anwaruzzaman asked for prayers and love of Sylhet residents

While talking to journalists, Anwaruzzaman expressed his gratitude to the people of Sylhet and said, “I am blessed with everyone’s love. The people of Sylhet elected me as the mayor and sent me to Nagarbhaban. I want everyone’s prayers and love on the eve of the journey.”

Promising to make Sylhet a livable city, he further said, “I will work with all my strength to implement the election promise. As in the past, I want the cooperation of the city dwellers in this work. I firmly believe that I will not be deprived of this cooperation.”

Before this, the fifth election of Sylhet City Corporation was held on June 21. Anwaruzzaman became the candidate of boat in the election and was elected mayor by getting 199,991 votes. Anwaruzzaman took oath later on July 3.
